Weeknotes 2026.24 and 2026.25
Posted on So 21 Juni 2026 in Blog
The last two weeks were quite busy. And I will try something new this week. As mentioned the last days, there are own editions of the Postgres and AI news.
At work, we are busy preparing data for a conference in July. As usual, we are a little bit behind schedule.
Every time a company fires someone, it is a twist of fate. A coworker of mine was fired in the last week, and the consequence was that the coworker is not able to buy the apartment. It is usually a financial loss, and everyone evaluates their own situation. As a work council, you are always involved in this situation.
Sometimes it is true that you should be careful what you wish for. Every year we have a department workshop once a year. Under the old head of the department, he never had an agenda and everyone wished to have one.
Fast-forward to today. We have a new head of department, and he organized the workshop with an agenda. But I guess it would be better to talk to the people before you assign them a slot in a department workshop.
pg_duckdb
At the moment I am evaluating the performance of pg_duckdb, a PostgreSQL extension, compared to pure Postgres. Of course, it always depends on the use case, but for some use cases I already saw a significant performance improvement.
I set up a container build process for pg_duckdb. It should help reduce the attack surface for living off the land attacks.
Race Across America
The Race Across America (RAAM) started, and at the moment the winne of last year Philipp Kaider is in front.
Philipp Kaider has already covered over 1800 miles.
He is about 200 miles ahead of Tom Mauerhofer.
Tour of Slovenia
Last Friday I took a day off and went to Maribor to watch the start of the third stage of the Tour of Slovenia. It is always an interesting atmosphere at cycling events.
