It has been a while since the last edition of the Postgres news. But this week I had the time to summarize some news.

This edition will not cover all interesting Postgres articles since the previous edition, but we will see if they will appear in another edition ;-)

New Postgres releases

This week the Postgres project announced a couple of new releases. Postgres 19 was released as Beta 3, and Postgres 14 will be end of life in November.

pgrust

As mentioned last week, Michael Malis caught some attention with his pgrust project. This week he was on the Postgres.FM podcast to give some insights into his project.

Takeover

Another acquisition in the Postgres ecosystem was announced this week: Electric is joining Databricks.

AlloyDB

Radim Marek has written an impressive analysis of Google's AlloyDB. What the claim "PostgreSQL compatible" means and what parts of PostgreSQL are not covered by this claim. He shows the differences between the downloadable AlloyDB Omni and the cloud database AlloyDB. Interestingly, they offer different Postgres-Extensions.
